Ingredients

  • 1 pear (large, ripe pears work better for this recipe)

  • 25 leaves baby arugula (fresh)
  • maple syrup (or honey)

Notes

Make sure to use quality ingredients for the best flavor. I enjoy using both Bartlett and Comice pear varieties for this appetizer, but feel free to choose whatever is available at your local grocery store! Bosc pears and Anjou pears are also excellent options for this delicious appetizer.

If you are not a fan of blue cheese, sharp cheddar cheese or goat cheese are both good substitutes for a blue cheese pear appetizer.

Enjoy these simple pear appetizers right away. If you need to serve them later, you may want to add a little squeeze of lemon juice on the pears to prevent browning. Fresh pears might get a little brown when they're not in the fridge, especially at room temperature.

Instructions

1. Start by halving fresh pear, then core it and cut it into bite-size pieces.

2. Cut blue cheese into cubes. Put the cheese next to the slices of pear, arugula, and pecans to have everything in one place.
Ingredients for the blue cheese pear appetizer: fresh pear, arugula, blue cheese and pecans on a cutting board.
3. Assemble the skewers: Begin with a baby arugula leaf, stack on a pear piece, a blue cheese cube, and top it off with a pecan half. If your pecans are a bit dry and keep breaking, don't worry! Take a whole pecan half, place it on the cutting board, then insert the skewer. Give it a light twist to adjust the pecan's position.
