Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Cracker Bites Recipe

This is my favorite quick and easy appetizer, perfect for the holiday season! It’s a creamy salmon spread made with cold-smoked salmon, whipped cream cheese, capers, and a touch of hot sauce, layered between crackers. To make it look festive, I roll the edges in fresh dill, which not only adds flavor but also makes it pop on the table.

When I buy smoked salmon in bulk from Costco, I often use the leftover salmon to whip up this easy recipe, and you can pair it with a variety of crackers to suit your taste.

It’s simple to make, looks beautiful, and always impresses guests! Elevate your holiday season dinner parties or any special occasion with this easy and delicious cream cheese appetizer - the perfect addition to your festive table.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces whipped cream cheese
  • 4 ounces smoked salmon (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons capers (rinsed and drained, optionally chopped)
  • 1 scallions (finely chopped, can be fresh chives or green onion)
  • salt (a pinch)
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 24 crackers (I use golden round)
  • 1 bunch dill (fresh, finely chopped)

Notes

Store any leftovers of this easy smoked salmon dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

For the best flavor and texture, it’s better to spread this creamy dip just before serving. I’ve also used it successfully on bagel chips, and if you’re looking for a gluten-free option, cucumber slices work well too!

Instructions

1. Make salmon spread. In a small bowl, combine whipped cream cheese, chopped cold smoked salmon, sour cream, fresh lemon juice, capers, chopped scallion, salt, and hot sauce in a small bowl. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

2. Spread a layer of the salmon cream cheese spread evenly onto a cracker, top it with another cracker, and gently press them together. Use a knife to smooth the edges of the salmon and cream cheese mixture for a neat finish.
3. Place the finely chopped dill on a flat plate. Dip the sides of each cracker into the dill, rolling gently to coat the edges of the salmon spread with dill.

4. Arrange this delicious appetizer on a serving platter or charcuterie board, enjoy!
