I've always loved chocolate mousse, but I've found that traditional chocolate mousse recipes often rely on heavy cream and refined added sugar.

That's why I'm excited to introduce this unique twist on the traditional mousse, inspired by a protein mousse recipe I discovered on Instagram. I've crafted this simple recipe to offer a healthier dessert, tailored to my preferences and infused with a delightful hint of orange flavor.

By using cottage cheese as the main ingredient, I've achieved a creamy texture packed with extra protein. Plus, with the addition of cocoa powder, the chocolate flavor is elevated to perfection.

This healthy dessert is not only nutritious but also ideal for satisfying those chocolate cravings.  Consider it a flavorful addition to your list of delicious ways to enjoy cottage cheese while boosting your protein intake!


  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (or cacao powder)
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest (+ more for garnish)
  • 1/4 teaspoon orange extract

Store leftovers of this healthy mousse in an airtight container in the refrigerator for later enjoyment for up to 3 days. 

I prefer using an immersion blender for this recipe, but a regular blender or a small food processor will also work; just be sure to scrape down the sides as needed.

1. In a blender cup, combine the plain cottage cheese, maple syrup, cocoa powder, orange zest, and orange extract.

2. Blend the ingredients until smooth and well combined, scraping down the sides of the blender as needed. Once the mixture is smooth, transfer it to serving glasses or bowls, dividing it into small portions.
